Franz Josef Glacier 2010

from NZD 95.00

The dramatic ice river of Franz Josef Glacier winds through rugged alpine mountains on New Zealand’s West Coast. Mist clings to the steep rock faces while the ancient blue ice carves its way through the valley, revealing the powerful beauty of this iconic glacier landscape. This fine art landscape photograph captures the raw scale and wild character of one of New Zealand’s most remarkable natural environments.

Franz Josef Glacier was taken in 2010. If you look closely, you will see people roaming in front of and with guides on the ice structure.

As of early 2026, the Franz Josef Glacier continues to retreat significantly, with the terminal face located roughly 3,000 meters from the main viewpoint, making it impossible to reach from the valley-floor walk. The glacier remains a dynamic, rapidly retreating feature of the Southern Alps, heavily affected by ongoing ice loss, with access largely restricted to aerial tours for close-up viewing.

Our bespoke artwork is original photography, thoughtfully captured, designed and handcrafted in our studio gallery in New Zealand and Australia.
