I was on my morning walk and saw these milk thistles growing wild through the forest. This one had a seed pod starting to open, so I carefully took them back to the studio and popped them in my favourite vase. I didn’t get back to them for another few days and was so surprised to see they had continued opening. I grabbed the camera and a very light fan to capture the release of their tiny seeds. It was a special moment, knowing I had captured something magical. Set against a dark, moody backdrop, and using natural light, I used our textures to create our signature painterly style, which softens their natural spiky appearance and complements the soft, wispy seeds.

In our Westport New Zealand gallery, our prints are framed in basic black aluminium and natural timber frames and can be purchased framed or just a print.
